New EU requirements for a withdrawal link from June 19 – we have the solution

On June 19, 2026, new EU regulations come into effect that affect everyone running e-commerce selling to consumers. Running WooCommerce? Your store will need a withdrawal button or link from June 19 – here’s what you need to know and how to solve it easily.

What’s changing?

Under the new EU directive (2023/2673), all e-commerce businesses selling to consumers in the EU must offer a clear and easily accessible function to withdraw from a purchase – directly on the website or in the app. Simply referring customers to a form via email or a hidden link in a footer will no longer be sufficient.

The law calls it a “withdrawal function”, but it’s also commonly referred to as the withdrawal link. The purpose is straightforward: withdrawing from a contract should be just as easy as entering into one.

What the law specifically requires: A clearly visible withdrawal link on your website. A two-step process (click + confirmation). Automatic confirmation to the customer with date and time. The link must be accessible throughout the entire withdrawal period – including for guest customers.

What happens if I don’t comply?

Non-compliance can result in fines of up to €50,000 or up to 4% of the company’s EU revenue. The conduct may also be considered unfair under consumer protection law.

What does this mean for your WooCommerce store?

WooCommerce doesn’t have this functionality built in. That means if you’re running a WooCommerce store, you’ll need a solution that handles it for you – without having to build anything from scratch.
